WHY WE CHOSE THE NAME MAUDY'S
When the time came to choose a name for the restaurant we (Jack and Anita) chose a time and place where we had combined very happy memories.
Such a place was Maudies – a Wine Bar in Albury. Albury is Anita's home town and at the time Jack was stationed at Bandiana just outside of Wodonga at R.A.E.M.E. Training Centre.
The spelling was changed to Maudy's and we gave the name a personality. Maudy is not a real person.
Maudy's décor features some of the brass rubbing works of Anita, most from original brasses. Anita accompanied husband Jack to his Australian Army 12 month posting at “Royal Military College of Science” Shrivenham for post graduate studies.
Shrivenham is in the Oxford/Swindon area which had a wealth of tiny churches, which (at the time ‘76) allowed the rubbing of original brasses.
There always was a plan to frame and hang the rubbings in our bar but we really didn't expect to build a restaurant to do so.
